Hi All,

C320 Saloon (2000) i think it is a W203.

I had my front and back brakes and discs changed in March this year and they were fine (original MB parts). All of a sudden when i put the car into reverse especially in the mornings i get this very loud squeaking noise. All is fine when i put the car in drive and go forward. I have also noticed sometimes in slow moving traffic that i get a slight noice as well.

Please can someone let me know how i can get rid of this noise.

Thanks.

You can do this by removing the pads and re greasing the face of the pistons and pad backs, not always a 100% cure but nothing else that one can do

In addition to using the special baking grease,
There is also the possibilty that the disc surface has a slight glazing, remove the pads and rub (circular motion) the disc faces with glass paper to take the shine off them, do the same to the face of the pads with the sandpaper flat on a board rub the pad on it.
Avoid using emery or wet/dry, the abrasive is very tough and a small amount could stick to the pad/disk eventualy causing grooving of the disk.

It is not uncommon for a discs surface to go rusty overnight especialy as the night temperature drops and dew forms, it could be this that you are cleaning off when the brakes are first applied.

Giving the brakes an italian service might help, just get it going as fast as possible and stop as quickly as possible. This will remove the face of both disk and pad.
A note of caution staying stopped and not moving the car to get some cooling air to the brakes can distort the disks so only use the italian method if you can keep going afterwards.

I have had similar squeaks from a dusty parking brake drum, if its from the rear it may be this and not the disk. Never or rarely using the parking brakes can cause them to size or stick and then bind slightly.
