I wanted to upgrade my original Nokia phone that came with the car (2001 E320CDi), and took the advice of the local Mercedes garage by getting a Nokia 6320i which they said would work with the new Bluetooth device that could replace the old phone cradle. When it came to it, they looked and said the bluetooth module wouldn't fit in my car! I still want to use all the functions (steering wheel buttons and display), but what are my options?

You have the original hard wired system with a fixed cradle. Basically, you have no options I'm afraid.
The bluetooth and other interchangeable cradles are for the UHI (plug and play) system introduced around 2004.
You can get various excellent after market kits from the likes of Noika and Parrott that integrate very neatly into the car and with a decent fitted mouynt, look close to factory fit, but if you want to keep using the wheel and dash controls (and armrest cradle), you're stuck with your old phone I'm afraid.
