I have just purchased a 211 - 320 CDI, fantastic car, just one small thing, there is no cradle for a phone, although the audio unit has al the function buttons, can anyone tell me if it is an easy job to sort out an integrated system for Nokia "pop port", any good fitters in the south?

Thanks

Simon

Hi,
It all depends on whether the car has telephone pre-wire, If not then its an expensive job with quotes I've read on here easily into 4 figures. The buttons are there with or without the pre-wire. When compared to a Nokia CK7W at around £80 or £200 fitted its a lot to spend so you can flick through your phone book via the steering wheel buttons.

If you do have a pre-wire, the cradle should be available from the dealer for around £100 - obscene when you consider that Nokia's version is £15, but you're a captive market! Presumably you have the split centre console lid for it to sit in.

I went down this route as well! A pain! I have a clk cab with the full merc car kit, but came with an "old" nokia handset.... wanted to use a newer nokia 6310i which looks the same fitting but needs a whole new "control unit" which is only from merc, and costs £300! I think its would have been best to forget the merc controls and just have a nokia kit nailed to the dashboard.... shame, but the merc factory fit kits out of date as soon the car leaves the showroom! EG, if I wanted to go for a newer handset than the old 6310i.... there are NO options from merc other than a total refit.... around £1000! I would suggest go for the non merc route.

Thanks, i will investigate the prewire, if its not i will just have an aftermarket one put in, do you think it's worth getting done by merc?

You should be able to tell if you have the pre-wire by whether the centre console is split or one piece that lifts up (one piece means you don't have pre-wire).

You could try Braybrooks in Hertford as they have retro-fitted the original MB carkit to W211's before, but the cost is likely to be in 4 figures as Paul said.
