As most people have commented the newer M-B's suffer from very poor quality paint that chips off everytime you take it out onto the motorway.

My 210 has this problem and the part of the bonnet under the front grille looks like its been blasted with a machine gun.

I noticed on a web site a few months ago people were talking about a high chip resistant paint that could be applied to M-B's when they needed the front areas touching up.

Does anyone know where I can get this paint in the UK?

Dont know about the paint but you can get "Chips Away" to sort your bonnet out. I am sure they'll use appropriate paint!

The posts I saw a few weeks back were discussing a product called "armourfend" It's a clear plastic sheeting material that has to be fitted by a specialist. It's apparently meant to be good at repelling stone-chips but sounds expensive.

Try:

Thanks for that i'll have a look.

I noticed in the states that 3M used to sell a plastic type protector for the front of cars used in dusty areas a bit like an invisable version of the bra that some sports cars have.

The problem with the present paint is that its very brittle but environmentlly friendly so its needs some protection.

Fam Fam. It is cheaper to have a bodyshop respray the bonnet than Superchips touch in the chips.

Well my A160 has done 11000 miles now and the front bonnet looks like it's got acne.  But only the bonnet....
My MB dealer said 'You've been unlucky' but I feel otherwise.  I've heard that some people have had sucess in getting MB to fund/part fund a re-spray - does anyone have any strategy on how best to persuade them?

The ArmourFend stuff looks promising (McLaren use it !) and I've got a price list for the A-Class here - A bonnet covering is £75 +VAT + labour.  all I need to do is find someone to fit it

Join the stone chip campaign

My 2002 C-Class C220 CDi in Metallic Silver with flecks of rusty scabs on the roof, boonet and wings is the biggest retail disappointment of my life to date.

If you have a 2000 to 2004 Mercedes, check your paintwork for rust on the stone chip marks - and complete the survey form at www.mendz.info whilst it is available.

Hi All

There is a recent posting from a member about 'Autoshield UK' who produce a paint coating that is highly resistent to stone chipping. I've asked the member to post their URL, if they have a website.

REGARDS Phil
