Non chrome wheel arches

Well, in a cheapskate attempt to stop my 2000 W210 to looking like the rust bucket it actually is, I'm trying to source some wheel trims. The basic plan being to fill them with Waxoyl or similar to buy a couple more years before I junk it and get something not made out of unproofed Madagascan sardine tin metal!

As it's a black car, I'd like to avoid chrome arches, for fear of looking like an imitation central African Republic dictator a la Last King of Scotland (could, I suppose, just shove a couple of small flag posts on the front wings and go the whole hog...mebbe not).

The only matt black ones I can find are on Fleabay at £110 from Poland, which to be frank does seem a slight "urine extraction exercise". I can't believe that one can't get them cheaper somewhere, but I simply can't find any.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers all...

i put it on my wheelarches then sprayed over it as my car is kind of a gold colour. its a 3 stage thing, you use an etching acid, then a cleaner to eat into and kill the rust, then paintthe por15 over it and it seals it all, it even seals pinholes etc. when its dry, its VERY hard. it wont be chipping off! looks like black smooth hammerite.

have a look at it, this link should get you there. www.frost.co.uk
if you get there, click on por15 on the left hand side in the rustproofing section.

Aaah - gotchya thanks.

To be honest, I'm so sick of the thing's abysmal quality, I can't be bothered with doing all that work on 4 arches and trying to get a half decent finish. The appeal of the aftermarket arches was that you can do a jungle job on the repair and rust, then slap on a cover that hides it from the view of the world.

Plus I have the 4 doors to do, plus tail gate (again) and now high level brake surround and various other small areas.

get some of that por15 on it, get someone to spray it, if your not confident to do it yourself, then just forget about it and enjoy the car. if you like it, that is? ive used rust converters in the past and rust comes back after about 3 weeks. ok its only about 5 weeks since i did my arches etc and theres no sign of any problems, even on the wing that had pinholes! no water coming through, no bubbles in the paint, nothing! cant recommend it highly enough!

can't you get the cheap chrome arches from eurocarparts and spray them same colour as your car with an aerosol from Mercedes, and then clip them onto the car.
