My 1997 C200 Is Firing On 2 Cylinders Only 1-4 :2-3 Are Not Firing, Loss Of Power Was Sudden While Driving Along With No Backfire Or Unusual Noise Of Anykind. Has Anyone Experience Of This And Can Solve The Problem?
Davie
no spark and the ecu switchs off the injector so neat fuel isnt being put thro the engine/cats, think coil is going to be first call, as long as the coil is being told to fire!
the coil packs do tend to pack up on the c200-e200 16v but also have a look at the pms ecu on the c200 its under the washer bottle it has two large plugs one from the engine side the other from the main loom & a vacum pipe in the centre if you remove the plugs and check for any sign of rust on the pins if so clean it up and try it might help as this is the ecu for the fuel in my case i changed my coil packs. overload relay .fuel pump relay.fuel pessure regulator.then i had a look at the pms and bingo traces of rust so i changed it with on from a c200 in a brakers and never looked back
Hi roofless does a replacement ECU from another c200 work ok without codeing? Have removed the plugs and cleaned the the pins : removed the coils swapped them and found both to have spark, but still loosing the 2 cylinders. My thanks to every body for the response, was it expensive for the replacement from the breakers any ideas where to try for one? Davie
,
hi i was a bit lucky & got it for a £10 i dont think the chap knew what it was i removed it myself i have looked on ebay but it was £495 & unless you can be 100% sure its faulty best go for the cheep opt it seems that the siemens ones tend to give most probs if you check the part No to be sure its the same type as youre own
Be carefull with replacing the ECU system as I believe some were coded if the original car came with the immobiliser option in this case you will need the keys off of the ECU donor car.
If the ignition switch has a raised bezel around it this indicates the optional immobiliser is fitted.
Swap coils around and see if the misfire moves to the other 2 cylinders, therefore proving coil.
I would be looking hard at the wiring too as MB's up to and including 1995 were prone to dodgy wiring though well documented on 6 cylinder motors, 4 cylinder motors the fault a lot less common in the UK but apparently very common in the states. It should be considered as the wiring is still the same quality regardless of the amount of cylinders the motor has.
My thanks to all who responded to my problem: sourced an ecu locally and engine going fine so far but will keep you posted if any glich:straight swap from another c200with the same parts number. Davie
