Hi

My valve cover has a small leak where the "semi-circle" shape occures I happen to have a tube of Hermetite Golden non-hardening compound handy, but is it okay to use with oil leaks?

ive always been told its better to replace the gasket.
as these are non setting compounds you can always get blow-by

Well its too lare now, I've done the job. The gasket is only months old and the leak is/was (hopefully) a slight weep - the sort that annoys rather than causes mess.

Can anyone shed light on why the cover gasket will always have the semi-circle bit - it seems to be a weak spot.

I believe that's the bit where the cam shaft passes through (from timing chain case to valve cover)

I think the torque tightening must be all even on on the bolts, then only the tightening on the gasket will be even. And also the sequence should be like thightening the cylinder head bolts.
