NON OEM Chain Tenssioner

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a Ridex timing chain tensioner. a bsic comparison between it and the removed component indicated it was of sound quality. I installed it last night and plan to rebuild the engine ancillaries tomorrow. a cloud of doubt has drifted over me now though and im wondering if i shoud have stuck to a genuine part.

does anyone have any experience using a non genuine tensioner?

Using non OEM is usually a cost decision if you can afford to fit genuine I would do it. The only non genuine parts I’ve fitted recently have been rear airbags to the S212 I think the cost saving was circa £400 I’d be very reluctant to fit any pattern parts to engine internals.

I am no expert but I would avoid such a cheap alternative for so critical a component.

Ridex often appears as the cheapest option at AutoDoc and I've always been suspicious. Maybe for a peripheral like a washer pump but never for anything I can't change in 15 minutes or migh leave me stranded.

Of course, it's easy for me to spend your cash.

I see cheap ones starting at 30€ - Truckteck - no mention of Ridex. MB price 260€.

That's for my tensioner.
