Hi All,
hav 98 250td,which is great generally, have changed the all plastic fuel pipes and o rings,as per the many posts. The bugger still doesn't like to start first thing in mornin (parked uphill) and takes ages to crank when cold.Question please, how much success have the members had with fitting them?As a previous car I had (it had one fitted apparently) was no bother, even though it had very little service history.
Also where do fit them (it's an estate) near the tank or at the engine.changed the fuel filter and pre filter also, think that's everything?MB must have had a design fault otherwise they wouldn't have made part,i assume?Don't want just keep parking it downhill (always starts then),would like to reslove the problem.Help please!

id start by checking the rubber hoses and leak off pipes. my current car (e300turbodiesel) started when pointing uphill, not downhill! i changed everything except metal pipes from tank to front of car, alloy casting the fuel filter fastens to, and the injector pump. had pump checked and pump is ok, so its expensive time for me now!

i fitted non return valves. made no difference at all

It drives absolutely fine and restarts every time during the day.Just the first time in the morning and don't wish to burn out the starter motor.

Have you changed the o ring behind the fuel shut off valve attached to the pump?

hi,have you replaced the "o" ring on a small rectangle box that bolts onto the block near the injector pump just below the head(sorry i cant remember anymore as it was about 3 years ago i done the job,but the c250 td would not start on a slope first thing in the morning & replacing the "o" ring cured it)hope this helps

hi benz boy,
yep, changed that one too!I know because I broke the fitting doing it,had to unbolt the whole lot to remove the broken piece stuck in there. Now given up for the moment,am parking it downhill to resolve the starting in the mornings problem.Has anyone had success with nr valve?

Hi,changed the plastic pipes and o rings, doesn't seem to be any bubbles in fuel. But on the odd cold morning it's a bugger to start first thing and worried about burning out starter motor. After that fine, all day, starts first crank!parked flat or uphill it has the problem, however downhill it fires up fine?Is there anypoint checking the tank end? It's estate, just in case I didn't say.

I was just thinking ..if you cant locate the cause of the starting problem... well the lack of diesel.. you could fit one of those manual priming pumps from another vehicle and just a few pumps before firing up ..

i thought i had the same problem. mine started better (but never right) when pointing UPHILL! mine is a serious problem though. assuming all filters etc are ok, you could try slackening an injector pipe before starting it one day. get someone to crank it and see if theres fuel there straight away. if there is, its not a fuel problem. an inline injector pump (which your car has) will start instantly if theres fuel there. if no fuel, you have a fuelling problem. if fuel is there, its not a fuel problem causing the poor starting.
