EML came on, dealer says both NOX sensors report faults and need replacing - quoted over £1800. Seems steep? Anyone else had this, and what’s reasonable cost? Looks like they cost 350-400 each.

This sort of thing has cropped up recently , some people have had success with contributions from MB to lessen the costs . I think Ian at Star Mercedes , Reading had mentioned this (hope I'm quoting him correctly )

Speak to Ian at Star near Reading. He's had success with getting MB to foot the bill for these.

Thanks.
To be fair, the dealer is working off the book apparently, and did ask MB for a contribution. They said that car is 3yrs outside warranty and even though relatively low mileage, they are not interested. First problem I had like that with MB in 20 years and much as I'd expected a goodwill gesture, Audi are much much worse.

Reading around, it seems early ones had a problem - they have modified them but expect customers to pay. Also requires card and SW update for new ones to work.

Ian will be able to tell you if you have a chance of MB contributions , the discussions on here are obviously all about contributions outside of warranty , so don't loose heart yet . Also probably worth finding a good local MB independent , I find it hard to believe the cost is £1800 (you can buy a whole car for that )

Before you go replacing sensors, make sure you have the latest updates carried out on your car. Ours did exactly the same as yours (2012 ML 350) circa 60k, and was told it was the sensors or ad blue heater. Neither were cheap, but my indie did a software update and all is good That was around 4k miles ago.

From the other side, a few members have had it done and the cost was circa £1200 supply and fit, admittedly at an indy.

I managed to get away with a software update :) It was other members who also had the same problems ended up replacing the sensors, thank fully not me.

My location is indeed Yarm (North East) a very long way from Gt Yarmouth, but thank you for the recommendation. :)

That’s because he spends all his time washing it and never driving anywhere :p:D
I do spend a lot of time washing , I'll give you that buddy . But I've done a lot of trips to all our scenic mountain areas , it's the places where everyone is gathered together that I avoid :D

Looking at the floor with a Goretex hood on stops you making eye contact with them buddy

Thanks all. Short update - we do have an Indy, and he thought the 1800 was a joke. The dealer came down to 1300 in the end which is more like it, and possibly worth a bit extra just to have Merc warranty etc. But thanks Abb for the pointer on the SW update - we'll check that out. Not long ago had a major service and I'd like to think they had done the decent thing and checked for updates..
Incidentally, my daughter's car before someone comments that it's not the E350 in my profile. She especially appreciated Malcolm210's technical document on the 642 and Adblue!
