My domestic other and I were doing Mercky World today and we looked with intent at the new CLC Class . As you do in such situations I inserted myself in the drivers seat and the immediate reaction was  B***** H*** these seats are hard. It was a SE Panorama model with sports seats. Now I make my first impression on the comfort of the seat, I had the misfortune to buy a C class some 10 years ago that made your eyes water after 30 mins of driving and have ever since made posterial cosseting my first priority. Even on poor cars it is usual for the discomfort to take some time to become apparent, however these seats it was instant . Another CLC we tried , also with sport seats was quite OK. the only difference was these were leather.
I would hate to order and find the seats were like a plank when I got it. Has anyone else experienced this ??

Yes I think that the standard seat in the 204 are too hard.

I found the same in the SL 230, after sitting in a car with comfort seats, I knew that was the only thing acceptable to me, and it has paid off, in that I can do 5 to 6 hours drives as feel fresh within seconds

Not a numb bum, but when I first got my W202 Sport C250TD, it was my lower back. Even after altering the lumber set this made no difference. However after a while i got used to it and its not an issue now

One reason I go for memory seats is that once I set them as comfortable to me I don't change them.
When I was looking at CLK's I was amazed how many came with Comfort seats and 18" wheels, I wonder if Mercedes had acknowledged the lack of comfort and were trying to compensate?

I have found lumbar adjustment to be an over-rated feature in the past. I found that reclining the seat back of my 190 by 5 -10 degrees cured my discomfort completely - and it was cheap too!

I find the lumbar support to cause me some pain. Get it out of the way and the seat's much more comfortable. Now that I've got it set up (it's taken some time incidentally) it's the most comfortable car seat I've ever had, but the lumbar support feels like a cheap add-on

My w203 wants me to sit towards the center of the car, rather than in the center of the seat. I've seen others also sitting like this in w203's. I have never had this problem before in other cars. When i force myself to be in the center of the seat it feels un-natural... its starting to really annoy me!

As per my post in response to Scooby's thread on C class or E class.
I think the 204 seats are too small and not up to Mercedes standard.

I found many problems with car seat design/implmentation. I suffer lumbar problems ever since a minor coccyx (tail bone) operation over 20 years ago.

Capri Mk 1 seats, Laser, Mk 3 GL, Fiesta, Sierra leave me as a cripple after a 20 minute or more drive. I get out of the car and the pain/discomfort is difficult to explain. Laguna's are the same and so was the hired Scenic last month.

Mk 2 Capri GL, Ghia and Recaro seats are no problem after a long drive (I used to drive 140 miles to university either straight or with a stop at Strensham (M5/M50)).
I have found Mercedes and BMW seats to be the same here with no discomfort after driving/being driven.

IMHO the whole car gets designed with the development costs spent before they get to the seats and therefore these are added last and at minimum cost. So looks good, goes like .... driving it is a pain in the rear (well it is for me).

That would be a W211 then.

Have you notice yourself adopt characteristic poses in other cars previously? Does this relate to pedal layout? Is the seat comfortable?

Did you learn to drive on a motorcycle around a circuit with all left turns?
