You can bet that some coppers will pull you over and fine you on the spot for not having the GB sticker when travelling abroad.
We get stopped almost every time we travel to Slovakia for routine checks where they are really just looking for anything to fine you one, I was pulled over once just as we crossed the boarder on a duel carriageway, go to pull into the first petrol station (about 5miles over the boarder) and buy a motorway pass (couldn’t get them outside of the country prior back then), as I’m pulling in no surprise was blue flashing lights and actively pushing me on to the side of the forecourt. 300 ish euro fine because we were travelling on a motorway without the required tags, they then went through every bit of paper work for the car, my license, inspected the car in great detail and couldn’t find anything else to fine me on. I think I also got away lightly as my wife was a native speaker so able to argue the point that it couldn’t be bought prior to this point.
Anyway, tag bought, fine paid on the spot in cash (yes has to be paid that moment there), and we were on our way. After about 30 minutes we passed another police van on the motorway, and they again waived me to the hard shoulder and started checking everything again, no fine this time but we were told it was again a routine stop! And one even said it’s because it’s a foreign car they targeted us.

Also got pulled over in Germany once for a routine check, only reason was they said we were travelling in convoy?? As it happened we had just been overtaken by Polish family in a UK car.

so you say the cops don’t care and won’t check, my experiences tell me otherwise
I’ve driven a lot on the Continent over many years (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy) and never been stopped. But now I’ve said that....:(

Driven thousands of miles and mostly I’ve not been pulled over, just a few times but every time I have been pulled over it’s always been the same experience

We stopped at an Aire in France and had two police cars pull in behind and block us in. They asked us where we were going and why and had a really good look around the vehicle and were particularly asking about cigarettes (which we don't ever have). It seems from what we can gather they were concerned with smuggling for some reason so if that is still a concern the UK/EU relationship being what it is I'd expect more interest on that front in future.

Dont get me wrong, i've been pulled over by a very rude french gendarme for crossing a while line to exit a DCW at the last minute who couldnt be bothered to fine me (spanish car, UK person, not speaking much french, too difficult) but threw all my papers on the passenger seat/footwell and told me in no undertain terms just to get out of there. And another time a Spanish border agent in the pyrenees who had a gun on me when i went to open the boot for him as he said I could be detonating a bomb and he went through all my belongings without much care. But in both cases they were trying to intimidate me with their importance and how serious their job was so they would be unlikely to contradict that by then issuing a 50 euro FPN for importing a pint of milk. Indeed in the Spanish border example the MOT sticker displayed clearly in the window was 3 months out of date and they had no interest in that whatsoever.

I seem to have learnt off the Spanish locals how to deal with continental police.... sort of a mix of stating how important they are and flattery and how much you admire them, but at the same time a cheeky smile and friendly roll of the eyes at the frivolity of the offence and how over the top it all is followed by a bit of a "OK but you wouldn't actually do me for this as we're friends and I'm cooperating" spiel at the end and they usually just let you go without any bother or at the very least without any fine nor infringement! Perhaps I got the sympathy vote with the old W124 and now I have my new car I will be deemed ripe for fining/being stopped for any minor transgression, will be fun to find out....

What do you think. The front is the same I didn't want to get the car out of the garage just for the photo. As you can see the sticker doesn't quite cover the blue segment but I'm quite happy, and at the end of the day they can be peeled off. 20210122_140646 (4) 1.jpg

Looks good to me, the slightly lighter blue border looks tasteful! Are they good quality and will they stay on when my local Eastern European gang get to work on the car!?

I can’t work out why that seller has what seems to be the same product available at £1.25, £1.89 and £2.25 with all the same description unless it’s some sort of obscure sales psychology

Considering buying a private number plate for the first time. I’ve seen a D4 NXO which the current owner has always had printed as D4N XO. What are the chances of getting pulled over? And what actually happens if you do? I’ve seen so many people with plates that have been moved like that.
Hi have made a comment before on number plates as I work for a company that is DVLA registered to make number plates. We are obliged to use correct spacing and put our contact details on bottom of plate and the maker of plate sign a form to verify that we have seen docs needed. Any plates without all the correct spacing , the suppliers details and BS number on is illegal and is only a SHOW PLATE and I do believe an MOT failure . This Showplate loophole leaves all of us open to cloned plates and potential grief proving our innocence. I might add I have personal plates on both my cars and they are of course legal.

The people I have used on-line for years are Plates For Cars in Dublin, at point of sale they are declared as being UK legal. I have been using them for years and the plates from them have gone through the MOT every time with no bother.:)

They seem ok but they was only £1.89 so I don't know. The lighter blue border is the original plate underneath i.e. the ring of euro stars and the GB sign. As for your gang if they don't agree with Brexit they might take umbrage and rip your plates off and jump up and down on them.:D

I have also used platesforcars over many years and only recently learned that they are not on the DVLA's approved list so they are not legal even though the number plates they make conform to DVLA regulations. Also being based in Dublin i wonder how easy it will be to get delivery in future.
