Odd electrical faults W123 230E

A strange series of electrical faults have developed overnight with a number of seemingly connected things working or not working, previously everything worked perfectly

Indicators not working
Hazard lights working

Rev counter not working
speedo working

fuel guage not working
ecomony guage working

Temperature guage not working
Oil pressure guage working

Electric windows work with the driver's door open (lower button makes the difference) but not with it closed

All other lights etc working fine

I have checked all the fuses and they are fine, the wiring diagram that I have is incredibly complicated and in german if only I could identify th wire(s) feeding these items I'm sure I could fix it. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated itseems like a host of faults but how could they all develop overnight?

sounds like a faulty ignition switch with those faults, fits the problem perfectly. otherwise have a good look at the fuses and give them all a good twiddle - the torpedos tend to suffer poor contacts at the tips so do not assume they are ok if not blown.

Makes perfect sense to me - no ignition or accessory electrics (does the radio work?).
Quite surprising that the engine runs but I assume it's feed is separated. Do your brake lights work though?

The speedo on the 123 is mechanical so that's why thats working.

Ignition switch

Thanks for the replies, am feeling greatly more clued up already.

I have twiddled the fuses to no avail

I am assuming some of the electrics think the car is switched off so don't work like the indicators etc, I am surprised the rev counter is not mechanical.

Does anyone know of wiring diagram for the ignition switch on the net, or to buy, so I can test the switch? I have only an old american manual and the diagrams are not at all comprehensive or even off the same model.
