what where MB thinking of when they put odd mirrors on the 190E's ?....has anybody tried fitting the manual mirror from a left hand drive vehicle to the passenger side ? if I can find out they fit ok I was thinking of buying one as i see no real need for electric one's (I never have to adjust them)

Hi Boys,

I replied to this a couple of days ago. Couldn't of got through. The reason the two mirrors are different. Is because there is two types of glass in them. One bends one way and the other bends the other. (Can't remember the technical names) Thats the reason MB uses two different shapes of mirrors. Both mirror glasses have (for this country anyway)heating elements in them. Have you never noticed that you never have to wipe them clear in the morning. On a really cold morning you can spot the steam coming of them. Thats why they are really expensive. Unless like Matt, somebody has put a cheap one in. So you see there would be no point in fitting a LHD mirror head any way even if it would adjust because the mirror is made for the LHD and so you wouldn't see correctly anyway.

Hope it makes some sense

What some have done is buy the passenger side mirror from a LHD country, usually off ebay in the states and you can also use a w124 mirror switch (I think) so that both sides are remoted controlled. Okay that means you have convex glass on the drivers side but as long as you know that you should be okay (though whether it would pass the MOT is another matter).

Mike.
