Guy i know has just traded in his A45 amg night edition at 10 months old , tesla gave him 42k against a model S , he initially looked at a new GT but mercedes only offered him 27k for it ! I know new cars lose a good amount but he paid 56k 10 months for the A45 so thats some serious depreciation for such a limited run car

Be MBO, for premium cars it ranges from20% for driving off the forecourt, to 30% in the first year, to >£1 per mile. Last time I was in MB Coventry there was a S Class Coupe, 4mth old. List £96k, sale £86k, 8000 miles on the clock.

Does anybody pay "list price" anymore though? It has always struck me that these nearly new pre-owned cars, at least from MB dealers, are priced higher than you can buy a new one for, with a bit of haggling. And the PCP interest rate on a new one is about half that on a used one (roughly 5% vs 10%).

I haven't looked but I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy that S Class coupe brand new for <£86k? Very funny market.

Sounds like he didn't loose much in it with the Tesla trade in, but that's still £14k in 10 months! That's a classic SL!

Yet to hear of worse depreciation than suffered by the first owner of mine though. 8000 miles and £105000 in depreciation.

CAR mag BMW 530d 13p a mile.... then stop lying to yourself and factor depreciation in the 12 months you've had it and its actually £2.67 a mile

35% year 1
50% by year 3
reality in stop start lease hire world.... 100% at 5 years when you scrap it

Always buy cars two to three years old, & keep them to at least 100K miles.
Bought the current E350CDI fully loaded 9 months old for £31K.

£56K for an A Class ..... he must have been on drugs
Just think of the peachy SL 63 one could buy for £56K. :):):)
Actually I would far prefer a non AMG SL500 or S Class Coupe...
