Just got out of hospital, feeling a bit under the weather.

Mrs mercmads Mitsubishi colt needs a service, so I thought I would ring around a few garages for a quote.

A lot of garages seem to be doing these £99 specials, but this just seems to be changing the oil!!

But one garage asked me for the registration and said they would price the parts and ring me back.
2 hours later phone rings, its the garage with their price, conversation went like this,

Garage: "hello sir, the price is £270 for the service, you can rest assured we will use genuine Toyota parts"
Me: "er, its a mitsubishi"
Garage: "oh ok"
Me: "so what am i getting for my £270?"
Garage: "new plugs, oil, filter, cabin filter, and we check the brakes as well"
Me: "what about the cambelt?"
Garage: " we check that aswell"
Me: "it has not got a cambelt"
Garage: " well we will do it for £170"
Me:"thank you, I will let you know"
Like I say...oh dear..

Ah well, I will have to wait untill I am better and get my tools out!!

Reminds me of going for a test drive in the "New Audi 100" in 1984. I was skeptical about the salesman's grasp of the fine product he was purveying. As we drove along, I asked if it was front or rear wheel drive.

Well, it was a 50/50 shot - but he lucked out. And like your man, that was his day job!

We may only do Mercs, but to me that does not help when the guy asked "What is the wheel torque for a140" I replied with the 140 figure that is 140, but he was meaning A140???

I did see that Malc, and was gonna question your reply, but i guess you had thought that it was a w140 and not a A168!

Good job you did or the next post would have been " they have all broken off"
