OK guv it's a fair cop! I was speeding!

Done for "excessive speed" by a nice gent, from Staffordshire constabulary, in an unmarked BMW last night - 97.11 average on the M54. He let me go with a fixed penalty fine rather than the recommended court summons, which I gather is the preferred procedure when caught at more than 95mph.

Well we had a good long chat and he asked los of questions about my old E430 and his BMW.

So the question is, what car do I get next in order to ensure that I don't get any more speeding fines?

I think you will find that a Series 1 Land Rover in low ratio should guarantee this. Bit heavy on petrol but properly cared for, it should be an appreciating asset and will draw large crowds at agricultural shows.

Ah no - sorry that won't do.

Said PC admitted that he'd have troble catching me if I put my foot down as they're all using BMW 530d's as pursuit cars now which tend to start running out of puff before the big petrols do.

So bearing in mind that my wife, that my wife was quite taken with the idea of a helicopter chase for "Police, Camera, Action", what would you recommend now?

You should get an SLR, or equivalent. That way you can blow the speed limit spectacularly and get a police escort to jail.

97.11mph average. Your speedo will have been reading 100mph+ :D

Most cars are capable of running 100mph, comfortably and easily. Don't chop in your car for a snotbox, life is too short.

Ah no - sorry that won't do.

Those 530d's are fast, you'd have to do 140mph to get a clear advantage, and by then the copper would have a the chopper out, or sent out faster traffic cars (think Impreza's Evo's and T5 Volvo's) you really need a 211 E55 derestricted so 200mph can be done, that would lose the chopper and the faster cars.

He sounds okay the bobby as he's probably let you off a stiffer penalty.

Try looking at your next insurance quote, that will keep your right foot less eager.

I have a very good friend who has always had some pretty special (read fast) cars. He has only ever been done for speeding once.

That was in a Peugeot 306 Diesel........

If you're gonna speed, you're gonna speed regardless of car. Although, it is fair to say that some cars will give less indications of high speed than others (and an e-class is one such car).

I think you will find the reason he is giving you the fixed penalty option is because the unmarked cars dont have the calibrated speed camera..
and it wouldnt stand up in court..
You should make some enquiries regarding this,

Do not believe that unmarked Police vehicled have un-calibarated equipment on board. I think you will fine it is and certificated for court purposes otherwise why carry it? Try speeding in Merseyside and take that on in court. You will be dissapointed with the result!
