I am about to change the oil and filter on my V6 E280CDi 2006. When I bought the filter at the Mercedes garage I found that it was just the paper insert and 2 rubber washers. Is there anything I should be prepared for when changing the filter, and is it easily accessible from underneath the car. Do I have to remove any of the front end under-body spoiler stuff?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Car not on warranty? I know independents can now work on cars in warranty but sounds like you're going out on a limb here?
Trying to be constructive in case you have any unrelated engine probs later.

As long as this is an "extra" oil change, there should be no warranty issues - especially as S999 is using the manufacturer's oil filter. The filter is changed from above.

which raises the question as to why someone would take out perfectly good fully synthetic oil and change it. Admittedly some folk will disagree but I'm firmly of the opinion that it's been proved beyond doubt that fully syth good quality oil, as used in MBs is still effective far beyond the official oil change limits and earlier changes are a waste effort and oil.

Add in the wwarranty factor and it's a very expensive gamble - not one I'd want to take.

Yes David, Santa didn't disappoint.....although the missus was a bit miffed on Boxing Day, when I spent a the afternoon playing outside - taking the wheels off - the only way I could get the old stars out.

You will need the oil filter tool for removal. You will need to remove the under tray to gain access to the sump bolt.
Make sure the engine is hot and leave it to drain for sometime to get it all out. Use a big container for the oil but look in the handbook for the amount of oil required because it will be the same amount coming out !!! so make sure the tray is big enough.
Always hoover out the air filter housing to remove the grit and other debris.
Make sure you use a good oil!!!
