Sounds high but you can't be sure there was enough in at the service. Keep an eye on it. Also some engines do use more than others. I have a friend with a V6 VW and that drinks the stuff. He complained but it is within published limits apparently.

It has been noted that new engines are not always beding in with the synthetic oils that manufactureres put in from new. VW, Saab and Vauxhall can be particularly bad. The engines are not beding in so oil is getting past the rings into the combustion chamber.
With 20,000 services on lots of cars if the car is using 1Ltr per 1,000 miles you can have changed the oil twice before you get to a service.
On my R1100SS Boxer, the engine is not run in until >15,000 miles and in that time should be run on mineral oil otherwise oil comsumption can be very high.

1/2 litre per 1000mls on what is a low mileage engine is to be expected as the engine is hardly run in, should improve as the mileage builds up.

how's this?

My Vito has covered 180,000 miles, and doesn't use a single drop between 10,000 mile oil changes, i know i should, but i never check my oil level, because it never uses any.
