oil filter opening tool - for 190e and c200

can anyone suggest where to get the special tool that fits on the oil filter cannister of the 190e and also the oil filter housing of the merc c200?
i know the dealers sell them but is there any other place?

thanks for the tip-i rang the local merc spare parts dept-i was quote £7-01p inclusive for the tool.

when i arrived the salesman said they did not sell tools,i explained i was quoted and told it was in stock when i had rang earlier,so he had to retreat and oblige and sold me the tool!!

merc stealers are obviously still a closed shop affair,but little do they realise that the internet  has opened up a whole load of options and transparency, for example the mercedesshop.com website has a lot of very useful tips and photos of parts on their on-line catalogue under the fast lane section of the website.

You can use any removal tool on the 190 canister type filter...even your hands if you have a strong grip! Its nice that the fact you dont have to sprawl under the car to get at it as well!!!

yes ,agree  about any tool being used-i find that the chain type oil filter tool is ok but sometimes damages the old filter while unfastening it,also once managed to snap the the cloth strap type tool available from halfords etc,-- the original tool from merc fits well and has the benefit that it works on both 190e and c200 merc oil filters.

regarding the use of muscle,going to start going to the gym to pump up the biceps!!

i've always used a big screwdriver, driven through the filter with brute force and prayers. Involves mucho - cleanupo, though!!!!!!!!!!!
This method dates bck to days when no cash available for tools. Still works.
