Hi to you all hope the recent snow is not keeping you of the roads, non in Lancaster. I intend to replace the oil and oil filter in my 230E 1990 W124 Auto, and have the oil but need the filter. Q do I get an MB one or will and after market one be OK??????
Cheers
Keith.

Not done mine yet, but doubt the MB ones will be much more expensive than 3rd party so I'd go to sdealership.

and...

German, Swedish and French tend to do aftermarket and OE ones as well - I use GSF because they are only a mile from home - but find the prices are similar to Euro...
Oh, and I tend to ask for an OE one as Oil filters are too vital to risk getting snot and crappy paper breaking up inside your engine.

oile filter

I woulds suggest the MB one, they dont cost much more (ok an extra £3 or so?) for the sake of potential problems.... Also, not sure if the after market ones come with all the new rubber seals? These should be changed each time as well. on the clk there are four or five oil seals that come with the MB filter. I change them each time as well.

Thanks for all you comments, and yes as I am hoping to keep the car running as well as it is 174000miles, so I will go for the MB one and sleep at night.

Cheers
Keith.

P.S. What is OE?

OE = original equipment e.g. some MB lights are made by Bosch so an OE part will be Bosch.

Just as a foot note, MB service parts are surprisingly cheap. For spark plugs, oil filters, etc. I would just get them from the stealership.

Keith. No problem it took me ages to work out what BTW meant (not being too hot on text shorthand!) and almost just as long to work out how to open the fuel filler cap on my W124 (used to lever it open with my nails!). Glad I could help.
