Oil filter tool - 300CE-24

Hi,

My next oil change is coming up. Does anyone know if there is a tool available for undoing the oil filter housing? A strap wrench did the job last time, but it wasn't easy.

Thanks

You'll get an attachment for a ratchet thats got 3 legs on it, tightens its grip as you go. probably better bet than the strap.

you can get them on e-bay,or from MB

once I'd convinced them they'd never see my money for an oil change, they reluctantly sold me one. About £10.

you can buy these from the dealers, i just ordwered mine last week funny enough for 9 pounds ish.

the funny think is they may try to fob you off and say its a workshop item, thats exactly what happened to me.

I called the parts dept and asked for the tool, i had the part number, the guy said sorry sir we cant sell these to customers they are a very "expensive" workshop only item.

Bollo**s (excuse me) i thought, so i went in myself and called a chap from parts who i have dealt with many times. he came out hello, how are you, bla bla bla, I gave him the part number he took my cash and said to collect in tuesday. He did say that he isnt susposed to sell these to customers but as knew me it was OK.

now is this mercedes not wanting customers to change oil themselves or what.

its things like this that really get up my nose about the dealers.

ill post back on tuesday and let you know how good it is!

ps there is someone selling some on ebay.co.uk, search mercedes oil wrench, about 8 quid from canada! but they dont look as good as the mercedes ones, and i doubt they are as well made, IMHO

I bought the tools for removing the instrument pod. The first time I asked about this, they sent a guy out to pop it out for me (which was good as I got a free view as to how to do it).

I went in again and they sold me the tool, but I had built up a relationship with the parts guys buy then. £10 and the tools are useful for loads of other things.
