I 2005 BMW E60 530d. 2012 Mercedes e class estate.
Yet another problem for the recently purchased 2012 E class estate 2lt. Car is always parked on level surface, but yesterday it was parked on a downward slope and on returning an oil patch was very evident. Parked it upwards in the driveway on returning home and no leaks this morning. It will be next week at least before the indy can check it. Would there be any likely culprit when oil appears in the downslope parked position?

Many thanks.

Could it be collecting in your under tray? Some main culprits on these engines rocker gasket, leaking injectors, plastic sump or oil cooler.

Cheers.

Undertray was missing from this one. Good news is indy will take it first thing on Monday.

Engine thoroughly washed down and dried as much as possible by indy, followed by a 40 mile drive. On returning, everything is bone dry. Not an oil leak in sight. Thought it may have been leakage from quite a while in the past but indy says, " you wish ". Definitely seepage or a leak somewhere so he's taking it back in next week to see where it has hopefully manifested itself.

Incidentally. Noticed that both pieces of the front securing element on the engine cover are missing. You could have knocked me down with a JCB at the prices of the two parts, especially the little retaining clip which is around £15 so £30 for the lot. Another job that won't be done in any great hurry.

Did your indy not inspect for oil leaks before he washed it down

He was literally searching with various lights and torches for a good half hour with engine running. Nothing was showing so sprayed everywhere and dried off, checked again but nothing, before sending me on a long drive. Everything dry on my return but it was dripping slightly when it first went up on the ramps so there is a problem somewhere.

2005 CL500.
Park it on a downward slope again and see if the leak reoccurs.
