Help I have an oil leak.
I have had the transmission oil lines replaced as we thought it was those first of all but alas no. It drips from the left hand side of the engine as you look at the car. It is only slight but annoying none the less. It drips onto the under tray from the left side of the sump via the transmission pipe on that side then onto the front torsion bar ( at least thats what I think its called) anyway its the black bar that runs underneath the car from side to side.

Any takers.

It sounds like your oil leak is from the head gasket.

The location you point out is where they always leak.

The original head gaskets were poorly designed, and have been updated numerous times over the years.

The latest redesign apparently has solved the problem. It has metal inserts in it which prevents oil from leaking again.

Should you decide to do the head gasket, it is always advisable to have the head sent out for straightness, and have it honed if needed.

While M104 engines do not have a reputation for valve guide wear (like M103 engines), I would suggest having the valve guides and seals replaced. They are relatively chead to do, especially since you already have the head off.

oil leak

Thanks.

Thats what my mechanic thought it might be but he was hoping it would be something less nasty.
