Looking for a little helpful info guys, I have a 2007 cls with the om642 engine and I've suddenly sprung an oil leak towards the rear of the engine, oil is dripping from the sump guard, there's nothing obvious from above and I'm guessing it's coming from the oil filter but can't get under to inspect, it's obviously going to have to go in to the local garage to locate the leak, is there anything else that springs to mind with anybody as to where the leak could be from?

It’s probably coming from the oil cooler seals in the middle of the V of the engine . It’s a common problem on the om642.
Cheap seals , but 8-10 hours labour unfortunately. You need to speak to an MB specialist

As above, the only thing I would add is that whilst it’s a fairly straight forward job for skilled mechanics, I have heard lots of stories of this job going wrong in relation to the turbo. If you do have this done, just ensure that you get a trusted mechanic to do it.

Yes, absolutely, so many things to break if you’re not used to working on MB. I had mine done this year by an Independent MB specialist including a new oil cooler if you are digging into the engine that far it’s certainly worth replacing that as well. I’m handy with tools but a 12+ hour job on the drive forget it

Took my Indy 6 hours and he had to drill the Turbo bolts out
I think 12hrs would be a fair estimate for a non mechanic doing the job for the first time with a bit of OCD thrown in for good measure

6 hours is good going, assuming phone doesnt ring, we can do it in one day. Do lots as you can imagine.

MB say 8 hours so he took 25% off that
MB say lots of things, it's often impossible to do in that time. Some jobs take longer than book, some shorter. Think it revolves around warranty hours.

I know, he had one earlier in the week he did mine that took 12 hours as everything was so welded together.
