Am I the only one who finds it difficult getting a consistent oil level reading in my A class (petrol with manual dipstick) ? I follow the procedure in the handbook , run engine till warm, turn off wait five minuites, pull the stick wipe end clean of oil replace and withdraw to check level. The trouble seems to be that when you first pull the stick it lifts sump oil into the dipstick neck and when you do the check it smears the oil up the dipstick giving a false reading. I had an oil level showing which was at the bottom permitted, I added 2/3 litre (max from low is 1.2 litre). On checking the level it was then showing overfilled. I decided this could not be right so tried again next three trys were 2/3 full; full ; overfilled !! I gave up , at least it has some oil in it.
