Oil pressure drop connected to running temp?

    Dear all

My w124, since the arrival of the inlaws is working harder than usual. Mostly of the time it's just just for weekend trips, two adults and a baby. Now we are driving a lot more fully loaded, four adults, baby and associated kit etc etc.

Last night in London rush hour traffic, the temp gauge increased to about 90-95. And the oil pressure dropped to 2.5, but would return to 3 with a slight tap on the accelerator.

My question is whether this drop in oil pressure is connected to the car running at higher than normal temp. I know the car is due for a service in April 2013 and the current oil filter is not an original one.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Merry Christmas to all,

Perfectly normal. Higher temp thins the oil and pressure will drop at idle. 2.5bar is still quite good when hot at idle - that'a about 35 psi. Quite sufficient. Don't be concerned. The motor is probably running better at the higher temps anyway.

Thanks OIGLE - my in-laws are from Melbourne. W124s probably run quite hot over there. When my wife and I move across, I think I'll export my W124 to Australia.

Good idea. I have a friend who moved over a year or so back and brought his C class. Tells me they are worth heaps more here.

Yes my father in law tells me the same. Perhaps I'll ship over a collection of fine W124 to cover my costs!

With best wishes for the festive season.
