Oil pressure indicator always on maximum - W124

Hi,
I have a W124 E280 Estate. The oil pressure gauge goes up to maximum when the ignition is turned on, and does not move from there. I suspect some kind of electrical fault with the sender unit, but does anyone out there have any ideas.

sounds like the wireing to the sensor is shorted

Almost certainly a bad oil pressure sender unit.

Probably a bad sender, but sometimes the pressure monitoring hole gets gunked up with dirt from the engine oil. Although in this case, they tend to half-work.
