Oil Change

Hello, everyone. I have been reading all the guidance in these forums and thinking ahead to the next oil change in my 1985 500 SL, first in my ownership. I'm keen on changing the oil frequently , and the car has done nearly 62000 miles , is obviously well cared for, and the engine is impeccable.

The experts seem divided between the merits of semi - synthetic oils and mineral ones. I believe Duckhams 10W /40 or similar is what the dealer from whom I bought the car filled it with at the last change . Should I stick with this or a Castrol equivalent?

I'm with Tom

I run both ours on Fully-synthetic 5w-40 Chevron. Top stuff , Iwish I'd done it sooner instead of sticking with the recommended semi stuff.

Thankyou Tom , and my faithful friend Myros, you've convinced me, so this is what I shall do , as well as giving my contributions a proper heading, Pascal!
