Can't go wrong with old Volvo's. Amazons last forever and the P1800 holds the record for the highest mileage car with over 3 million miles before the owner passed away.

To me there are three major issues with old cars.
1. Parts can be hard to find but in general they can be fabricated pretty easily.
2. Corrosion. Always an issue on old cars.
3. Fuel consumption. They were never economical.

They're also often quite slow but in some ways that's not always a bad thing.
Ur near. But I think if ur prepared to pay a few grand over odds u can get a minx for example that's never been welded. N ur right on volvo amazon and I wud look at those as well and I entering that era where gettin where I need to go is more important than the speed at which I need to do it. And I feel its only way of insulating myself from becoming a piggy bank for modern car dealers.
Also I like to tinker and will be rebuilding my machine shop. So I can prob engineer my way out of a lot of dramas.

They were not... But Japanese ones were!! I know I had a good few in 70,s

my first car was a mk1 escort with 70k on when i bought it, i sold it 3 years later with 110k and nothing major had gone wrong exept bulbs and tyres. it was treated badly but kept on going , the triumph 2500 pi i had after it was another matter.

I agree with all above, sucees it dictated by, in my view, getting, and therefore paying for one of the few rust free versions. Nothing eng, gearbox, drive line worries me a bodged up chasisc and or sills and door bottoms does. On the hilman, I have only seen 2 candidates one at 6995 the other 11500 both of which I will look at in mid Sept if avail.
I will also look any amazon that appears in similar range (not many)
I will be going yorkshire and during, after that ml250 will be for sale, speed sensor and aux batt changed, no faults, displays on dash, but I will prob hire to go France as I cud not face a dtf repeat of last debacle.
If my next motor don't have any of this dash display, sensor, ecm dtf., shxxe on it, I won't be needing to worry about it. ??
As many times before. Good tech = tech that does job, I used to have to do and think about, reliably.,is a good thing lots of modern tech JUST DON'T do that.. Its primarily designed to keep one looking for another mouth in the food chain, at retirement, for me anyway I simply want, need to avoid that.

Cheers. Appreciate. I prob? See u before go France. Will most likely be heading up to see v old man, housemaster from boarding school. If that works out will try to pass u on way back down. Assuming that f ml don't become brick again.
