Ur near. But I think if ur prepared to pay a few grand over odds u can get a minx for example that's never been welded. N ur right on volvo amazon and I wud look at those as well and I entering that era where gettin where I need to go is more important than the speed at which I need to do it. And I feel its only way of insulating myself from becoming a piggy bank for modern car dealers. Can't go wrong with old Volvo's. Amazons last forever and the P1800 holds the record for the highest mileage car with over 3 million miles before the owner passed away.
To me there are three major issues with old cars.
1. Parts can be hard to find but in general they can be fabricated pretty easily.
2. Corrosion. Always an issue on old cars.
3. Fuel consumption. They were never economical.
They're also often quite slow but in some ways that's not always a bad thing.
Also I like to tinker and will be rebuilding my machine shop. So I can prob engineer my way out of a lot of dramas.
