Om642 Oil Cooler Seal design change?

1A6F0A31-BDB6-4C1A-BE7E-58B20156F054.jpeg Hi all, we’re in lockdown here again in Melbourne, Australia and I’m tackling the om642 oil cooler seals in the downtime.

I’ve bought the new sealS (from the Mercedes dealer) and have received a purple seal but it looks a little different to the other purple seals I’ve seen online.

Mine has a fibrous brown type material within two circles on it, whereas the other pics I’ve seen show a metal plate?

I’ve also found some photos with two circles like mine but metal in that place - should I scrape off the fibrous material before installing?

Or has Mercedes updated the design again? Part number i have in my invoice is A6421880580

Any opinions are appreciated before I torque it down.

Can’t help with the brown/metal bits , what does MB say ?

Yes the part numbers are the same for all 3 from what I can see. In that photo you have linked I can see some brown material - it looks like it has been cleaned up.

It’s midnight here so Mercedes hasn’t said anything ;)

The middle section Where the brown stuff is doesn’t contact any fluids so I’m just going to leave it there unless anyone thinks there is a compelling reason not to.
