Recently purchased a 2013 Vito 113. Day 1 it was fine. Day 2 it went into limp mode and with a generic scanner it pulled code po272. Injector 4 imbalance. Since then it has gone into limp mode with eml light about 15 times over the last 4 weeks. Sometimes it shows injector 2 imbalance, sometimes injector 4. And sometimes injector malfunction.

Today I scanned with a launch diagnostic my friend has. Injector coding is correct as I assumed this could be the issue.

Attached is the codes stored. PXL_20231025_165438917.jpg
The only other thing that came up was oil level sensor and it says fuel pump can bus!??.

Whatever that means?

Note: injector 2 and 4 look like original items, injector 1 and 3 have clearly been replaced at some point. No signs of blow by and no black death. Top of the engine is nice and clean.

Anyone got any ideas. The van drives well other than that. I get some random drops in MPG on my commute to work. Sometimes I get 43+mpg and just before the code comes on it tends to drop to around 36mpg average on the drive home.

As above,
but if this is now your problem.

Could there be poor connections at these components.
I've seen where some one testing has inserted probes (I assume) into the connectors, and flared them. The intermittent connections was the result.

Spoken with the previous keeper who I know well. He assured me it's never happened during his ownership. And he's a very trustworthy guy.

Only thing I can think of was I ran it down so the fuel light came on during my first day of ownership. Maybe it's picked up some crud from the tank? Performed leak off test and all are normal.

A new and 'good quality' fuel filter is worth a punt.

But a fuel supply issue would affect all injectors.

I think I'll try a fuel filter first. Otherwise I wonder if the fuel rail pressure regulator would bring up a different code?

If the fuel rail doesn't reach threshold pressure during cranking, it will inhibit the start. Like when there is excessive leak off.
I would assume that if the pressure falls below threshold during running, then it would shut down??

Would that eradicate the idea of a blocked fuel filter? Blocked filter meaning inadequate flow I guess but would it maintain good pressure at the rail?
