Thanks to all those who replied to my post "Tell me I'm not mad". Further to this I have just bought an e320 cdi saloon (2000 on a W plate, 88k and full benz history for what its worth).

I have just looked at the spec on the Russian site using the VIN number. It mentions that the car has parameter steering - can anyone tell me what this is?

Also would the ATF have been changed under the assyst (or whatever it is ) system?

Many thanks for your help.

The transmission fluid would have been changed under assyst.

The steering must be of the standard type fitted, just a name.

Hows it going , more happy than mad:confused:

Thanks for your reply Malcolm (one less job to worry about). I will be happy tomorrow when I get the car! A few little jobs to do but I am looking forward to the motor.

I have also found a good home for my W202 which I am pleased about, as this car is in A1 condition.

Parameter steering was (and still is) standard on the E320 CDI, it is speed sensitive power steering so less assistance as the speed increases, very nice to have.

I would very much doubt that the ATF has been changed as it was never part of the service schedule. You would have to contact the previous owner or check through the service paperwork (if you have it)

BTW what specification Elegance/Avantgarde?

I answered for the question, that the car was on assist as that is what was said, yes it was part of assyst but not service

From my experience the ATF change never came up on ASSYST in my W210 E320CDI. I had to ask for it to be done, this was after the change of mind from Mercedes with regard to sealed for life. That is why I said that I very much doubt that the ATF has ben changed. However I hope that it has been changed as it is one less thing that will need to be done.

I still have the papers somewhere that I was going to send to you where the ATF is listed as being changed every 40k on assyst, I will take them to the meet.

I have it written out in my new service booklet, however that is on my W211 and it is a one off at 40K miles according to the service book. I have also seen that it is a one off on the US forums at 40K miles.

Have any other W210 E320CDI (or any W210 for that matter) owners had their ATF changed as part of the ASSYST servicing?

Hi

MB never changed Tranny oil in my 210 on Assyst. They advised against it too.
Changed it myself for the 1st time at 160K

I can say that it never was on assyst but was included in the scedule on the ESS. (Electronic service sheet). However it is no longer considered a serviceable item.

I very much doubt that it was changed "under assyst". It may have been changed by customer request.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I will check with the dealer as it has been serviced by the same garage from new (if they will even talk to me that is).

Blobcat - Its and Elegance, no leather I'm afraid, but it has the right gadgets for me and it certainly does pick up its little skirt tails and trots on when asked too!
