Hi all

I have just asked the local wheel refurbers for a quote, both cars.

19inch AMG split alloys, powder coat center and outside section, factory colour, split all rims

19inch AMG light alloys, poweder coat center section matt black, paint outside lip sliver as opposed to diamond cut for longevity.

Best price £850 1 week turnaround, wheels only.

I think this is a bit steep, thoughts?

I just paid £102 pounds a wheel for single colour powder coat on 4 x 20" wheels including removal balancing and refitting and am well pleased with the outcome. They quoted £132 each for diamond cut finish. I could probably have had them painted for 50 or 60 quid but would be concerned the finish wouldn't last.

If they have a good reputation and their order book is full it's the right price, IMHO of course:)

Jim

Fair enough, just wanted to see what others think, I suppose £106 each all in isnt bad. They only give 1 year warranty which could be longer but...

My 18's were £65.00 per wheel and the timescale quoted was one day. Drop the car in at 7.30am and pick up at 5.00pm. It was only a hiccup that was beyond his control that took it into the second day :)

I think the higher price for the non-split rims is because I want him to paint the outer rim instead of leaving it diamond cut. Also means he needs to bake it twice I suspect, He did actually say 2-3 days but that's with all 8 alloys there at the same time. Have to figure out how to get both cars on stands on a sloped driveway too....

Get a quote and tell them the wheels are from an old C class diesel . Sounds like they have doubled the price based on your car engine .

I didn't realise you have to remove and refit your own wheels!

I do that every other day, so does't bother me. It also means I wont need to leave my cars in a dodgy yard somwhere worrying about them getting scratched etc, so works for me!

That is steep, they are factoring in the amount of work it takes with split rims, splitting and re-building them takes time and you may need new bolts.

About £100 - 150 a wheel is what my friend charges depending on that new hardware is needed like bolts

So good price for the split rim, steep for the standard ones! :p

Yes

It is because you want them 2 tone, loads of work involved in that

Which is fair enough. I just don't want a diamond cut rim surface, as these have only lasted 6 months....

Diamond cut wheels are useless in this country, it is way too damp.

What about having them done in light Grey or a "Hi Power" Silver all over??

They are silver at the moment (with a dark grey inside to the spoke). If I am spending the money, I would rather have them powder coated matt black/silver rim tbh, otherwise I could buy a set of matt black ones for not much more money.

I had a quote from Birkenhead Powder coaters up here for dark anthracite £230 for 4 wheels. I’ve still to decide as I like the current finish which is like Alex’s( bar the diamond cut of course )
