Option List Codes

I have looked on the Russian web site for details on my car and noticed a couple of odd options. Is there anywhere that lists what the option codes actually mean?

The ones that are causing me confusion are :

"486 - sports chassis”

"165 - engine with special parts"

"803 - Change of year of model, last figure shows new model year"

Thanks

Last one is easy, the last digits of your VIN are the year it was built

oh I see.....makes sense really. Sorry having a bit of a "monday" moment. I am supposed to be telling a client how to get their software to work as part of a £250m PFI project so my concentration level may not have been as good as it should be (for either party !)

Thanks BC

Found this for 485 on a japanese web site:

"SELF-LEVELLING SUSPENSIONS WITH HARDER SPRING SUSPENSION"

I guess this equates to the sports suspension pack ?

Actually, having said that, the last three digits are 188. Not sure how that equates to 2003.

it's 803 = 2003 (mine is 804 etc)
The "sports chassis" is the avantgarde suspension set up.
There is a stiffer option still for the E class but I'm not sure about the C

If it just means it is an Avantgarde why is it on there as an option separate to all the other avantgarde bits?

Does avantgarde mean it has "SELF-LEVELLING SUSPENSIONS WITH HARDER SPRING SUSPENSION" then?

I'm not doubting what you say JB it just contradicts BC's earlier comment. Like I say, I've parked next to other C Class AV models and my car is noticably lower.

Any idea what the "engine with special parts" bit means? I wonder if it is just the extra plugs (as I believe the 240 has twin plugs). Is there anyone else out there with a C240 AV SE that can check their car on the Russian site and see what options it has?

As for the numbers thing, the last 3 of my VIN code are definately 188 (the first three are 203).

btw, JB there is another thread (search for 486) where you say yourself that 486 is sport suspension. See your response to the post shown below:

Husband has recently ourchased new E class 320cdi avant-gard which has standard alloy wheels for that model. The size is 16" with 225/55 but would like to change to 17" 245/45 tyres which are 5-twin spoke design option number 674. Is this able to be done without having the sports suspension option number 486? Can you advise what is best for his car and model as he would like to upgrade the alloys including the tyre width.

Ah - yes you could have something there.
Had another look at mine. I am a bit confused about the 486 code. On the E, they have 485 - comfort suspension - std on classic and elegance and 486 - sports suspension or "486 sports chassis (с 01.04.1997)" according to our Russian friends, which according to the price list, is only standard on the sport.

I trawled the price list for the Avantgarde suspension but it doesn't appear. I assume it isn't 486 or it would say standard on avantgarde too, but as it doesn't, it must be different.

So, I think you're right, you have the extra stiffened suspension which was is an extra £180 according to the price list and was only available as an extra if you ordered 17'' wheels. If you go the whole hog and order 18'' wheels, you have to have it.

The 80x business - mine says "805 Change of year of model, last figure shows new model year" so I guess it was an early 05 model spec.

ok, only got 16" wheels. Now I'm getting really confused....

I see what you mean about the model year though. Mine says 803 so it is an 03. I think I get it now. I must have been having a "used to be blonde before it all fell out" moment....

I would be interested to know if anyone has the Airmatic suspension (489) on a W211 as I would like to know what it's like.

OGNR I will dig out my old C class price list tonight and see if I can find the codes

I have found my 2nd April 2001 price list (wonder why they didn't publish it on the 1st?) for the C class.
There is no 486 option, however there is a 683 which is 'Alloy wheels (4) - 5 hole 7J x 16 (225/50 tyres) with sports suspension (Avantgarde only)' available for an additional £200. As your tyres are this size then I'm thinking this is what you have.
This option was also available as 686 for Elegance models.
The 486 is for the suspension on its own (not available in the UK according to my price list) however I think it was combined with wider tyres in the options above. 205/55 standard for C240 in Avantgarde trim.

Thanks BC, that sounds about right, although the wheels are 5 spoke alloys rather than 5 hole but I guess it depends on your definition of a hole! Probably explains why it looks a bit lower too. I got the numbers from our Eastern Block Friends.

btw, I was wondering if the "special engine parts" (or whatever it was called) is the Tracker. Are these fitted as standard on Merc's or do they appear on the options list?

Tracker not standard, useful but not standard and would'nt come under MB option codes as far as I'm aware

Not supplied by MB most likely a dealer fit option.

I wonder what the engine code thing is then?

btw, on a completely non-related topic, I'm really develping a love hate relationship with my C240. There are so many things I find disapointing about it but then I pull away and the V6 just "glides" down the road and then when I get out and look at it it just looks so good. It's a bit like going out with a beautiful girl with no personality.
