Hi All,

Just looking through the new Lidl supermarket offers sheet, which landed on our mat this am. As from 15th June 2006 they are offering (one week period or until run out) a pair of OSRAM headlamp bulbs H1, H4 & H7 in either blue (IMO waste of money) or +50% (IMO brilliant)as a set for £1.99 This has got to be one of the deals of the year.

I usually manage to get +50% by eBay mail order for £8.99 a set compared with £24.99 at a high street motorists shop. These Lidl headlamp bulbs appear genuine and even the sceptics out there cannot afford to waste a trip to the supermarket.

Clive, I've bought them before

They are either Osram or Tesla, and are absolutely fine. I even sent a couple over to Pascal once.

not the cheapest but they always arrive next day

David,

Don't know. I'm not aware that Osram do anything but silverstars in +50% but I'll find out on 15th June.

Don't forget that if you up the wattage you will have the lamp failure lamp "lit" the whole time.

BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER surely not   does it not sense less amperage used and then trip the bulb fail circuit - why would it trip the circuit if you use more amps? is it sensing a balanced circuit or something equally silly.:(

The Osram Silverstars are the same wattage etc so theres no problem there - and they are certainly brighter than the run of the mill stuff.

AutoCar or AutoExpress did a test on them and others and it came tops or 2nd against the Philips offering - and beat alot of very expensive bulbs I seem to recall.

Shouldn't you be packing anyway Malcolm !

Yes as David says, the lamps that offer you 30% more light are still within the spec, its the 100w lamps that upset the faulty lamp circuit.

Malcolm,

I thought it was only Silverstars that were a) non blue and b) +50%?

PS I tried the blue 5000 degK + 50% and the visible light output was **** (completely unprintable).
BTW does anyone know how to prevent dropping the old H7 onto the under engine tray everytime you take out the LH unit on a W210????

My missus popped into ours and got me a set

and they are Tesla +50%. I think Tesla must be a subsidiary of Osram. They are made in Germany for the purists amongst us, and do work just fine, I have them in all our cars bar the 300TE, and that might just get a set soon.

Oh dear! Looks like we Scots are being treated like second-class citizens yet again! :):)
P.S. 'Tesla' - named after (I think) Nikola Tesla, famous Serbian/American sparky of old and inventor/discoverer of rotating magnetic field principle, polyphase alternating-current system, induction motor, alternating-current power transmission, Tesla coil transformer, wireless communication, radio, fluorescent lights, and more than 700 other patents.
Will be well-known to 'television'!

Too Late!

Went down to the store at lunch time on the opening day but I only found one pair of H1s+50% and one pair of H4s+50% - no H7s. plenty of blue ones though. The bulbs are as said previously Tesla made in Germany and unless Lidls are contravening the advertising code Tesla must be an Osram make.

I was told by the check out girl that they had sold a few in the morning and that there were no more in the warehouse. If so then the space allocated on the racks showed that very few were provided to each store. I'll check again in a couple of days to see if further stocks materialise.

ps would it be worth watching eBay to see if any Tesla bulbs come up for sale??

They won't materialise Clive

Each Lidl store gets its allocation and that's your lot. The only way to be certain is to get there before opening and start your own queue.
I kept doing the drive in as I was passing route and it took me 3 years to get one of their great value TVs.........
