Nice day so thought we would take a ride around a few car sales lots to see whats on offer, looked at several cars around the 5-6k mark some Mercedes and some not. Best trade in offer I got for my 1998 e class 240 elegance not too rusty 97k on the clock with 11 months test and 5 months tax was £1300 and some did not want it at any price.OUCH THAT HURT!! Looks like I'll be keeping it for a while then

Ian it is all retrospective, but you could sell yours privately, as its running fine, it would not matter if it sells or not, if it did then you can knock down the price of another. The 210s do not give that much trouble overall

Sure you want to sell it? What else will you buy of that ilk for that money? Your car still has lots of life left - and you know any foibles it might have.

We all eulogise about the mileage MBs can do - why not test it in practice?

£1300 is a good price for the car you describe.

NetworkQ has a nifty online glass's guide which will give you the best idea of what your car is worth and it also gives you the price the garage will use as a basis for their value.

http://www.networkq.co.uk/nq/buyers/valuecar.do

In your case and using a '99S as an example with your mileage(Glass's only values back to '99S reg) it gives an excellent condition value of £1380 and as you've admitted it has signs of rust then £1300 is a good offer.

I have the same problem £1300 offered for my E300d 1998 estate at 140000 miles.
I intend to keep mine. It runs like a dream and mechanically is fine.

And why not for heavens sake, buy a new car or another model and it will be out of date in a few years, and you are back to square one, with the addition of being quite a few grand worse off, as an every day car you do not have a heart attack with every parking ding, so you can spend the money that you saved enjoying a longer life
