After fancying one for a while, we picked up our R129 SL320 yesterday and are loving it. Was a 4 hour drive back in it but a joy all the way.

1999 T SL320 in Obsidian Black, cream leather, glass hard-top, zenons, heated seats etc etc. HAs the same wheels as PASCALS car. 41000 miles and with new tyres, tax and mot. It is in very good condition for its age, although needs a few bits and pieces doing to it.

Am sure we will have a few q's on the R129, so Television be ready....:D

Any good tips on cleaning leather seats. The car has the cream/beige leather and is in good condition but the seats could do with a bit of TLC.

I use Autoglym products on my leather seats and happy with the results. The more effort you put in the better the results

Your interior looks in excellent condition.
Where would you get this saddle soap product?

It was not that good when I bought it, its available from all Country and farm suppliers and shops. The one that I have is made by NAF, its a cleaning and suppling the leather without denaturing the leather. As I said it is a natrual product and used on saddles costing thousands of pounds, it gives the seat a very good surface and you do not slide around. I have found all of the creams from car shops sold for this purpose too thin and dissapear without doing much.

I forgot and got carried away.
If you have some wear on the side of the back of the seat, you can deal with that later, its better to get the leather supple first, to stop creasing accuring in the same place.

the driver's seat is a little worn in the usual side bolster part, where they always get worn as you get in and out. Not sure that can be fixed or not. There is a local chap that works with leather upholstery, so will pop in to see him

You can get a laquer that you just dab on with a cloth, its colour matched to your leather, its cellulose based with some banana oil added to make it flexible. It used to be great when Connelly bros were in business, they would mix it up for you while you wait, allas, the name is being used by someone else, and it's not the same. All the fancy cars that I played with years ago, used to get this treatment, and the buyers would all comment that its never been sat in.

Hi Speedmaster and Television,

My SL 320 is a bit older than yours speedmaster but with low miles (46k) and has been looked after well by previous owners. My drivers seat has exactly the same wear - I thought I'd have to have the panel replaced. However as inertia and laziness are embedded in my character i like the sound of this other product - is it really no longer available television?

cheers,

Hi there New Boy

I am not sure what to do about it at the moment. Some people seem to think it adds charachter to the car (am not convinced!!).

I am just trying to decide whether to get the alloys refurbished or get a new set of wheels for it

Replacement is out really, due to fact that the leather cannot be matched, it would always stick out like a sore thumb. the Nappa leather has a grain like no other. Just hold on a bit, while I contact a member of the RREC to get an update.

Your wheels are a nice design, easy to clean, and original. They will always look right on the car. When I bought my SL I went through the same thoughts as you. The problem with after market wheels is you can never be sure that you have made the right choice. They must be made for MB, as all our wheels are hub concentric, many after market wheels cannot be balanced on the car.
Re refurbishing, the wheel range on 99 cars can only be refurbished once as the rim where the tyre side wall sits is very thin, that's if you want an original diamond turned finnish, they can always be painted, but to me that is not the same. Pristine wheels I can guarantee as being one of the best in the country.

Funny enough I have sent an e-mail to Pristine wheels about it.
The wheels I have are a nice design, however noticed a couple of set of brand new AMG alloys for circa £600 that are 17" - not sure whether worth the extra £400 or so over the rough £200 to refurb them
