disconnect the sensor again and see if the reading changes. (create open circuit)

i'm tempted to suggest bridging the wires in the connector (if only 2)to see if the reading changes.

BUT i'd wait to see if other members have a view on this with regard to the safety of this operation.

this will suggest whether your new sensor is faulty or that your problem is deeper.

outside temp sensor

Thanks for your advice, i'll try disconnecting it again to see if the reading changes. What will bridging the wires do? as i'm sure it is only 2 wires

bridging will create closed or short circuit...the exact opposite of disconnecting.
i think you should be ok to do this for test purposes, but hang fire for an electrical person to confirm as we don't want to create any unwanted damage due to the short circuit.

come on auto electricians help us here....

Try it disconnected is the answer. If it goes to maximum temp (cant remember the value) you then know the wiring is ok. If it doesent then there is either a problem with the wiring or cluster.

Thanks Guys, for that i'll try disconnecting it all together and se what happens. If it is a problem with the cluster is it a difficult job or is it an electrian i'll be having to go to
