Evening all.
Further to my previous post regarding my Viano overheating problem I had some more checks done today.
No sign of head gasket leaks, water circulating well and no sign of leaks.
Despite a system flush is it possible that due to my high mileage of 250000 that the radiator is past it and needs replacing.
Water pump and thermostat replaced last week.
Thanks.

It warms up at the usual pace but just keeps going. At a guess 20 minutes.
Normally runs at around 80 but now goes on to 95 to 100 and at this point I turn on the heating. Goes down to around 80 quite quickly. Temperature increases faster when climbing hills and I do my best to avoid working it to hard.
I'm very quick to put the heating up as I'm concerned it will overheat and damage the car.
Radiator fan is working normally according to the mechanic who looked at it today but he did not find a solution.
He just said replace the radiator as the car is high mileage .

When does it overheat and what temp does it get to?
Forgot to say that this has been happening constantly for the last week.

Have you checked underneath to see if you are losing coolant?
If so, likely the rad.

Yes. Have been looking daily and no fluid under the car
RAC man did a pressure check on the cooling system and it was fine.

Do a visual check on the radiator. If the fins look in a poor state it may well be the problem.

Alternatively, the fins could be blocked with dirt or insects, or be damaged, e.g. folded over to close off the air flow as can happen when pressure washers are used too enthusiastically. The thermostat could also be faulty and be locked in a position to restrict the coolant flow.

Do you have an electric fan or a heat sensitive direct drive? At what temp does it cut in? You should hear it activate. Perhaps another opinion of the fan operation might be a good idea. Otherwise, can only be radiator as you have replaced everything else.

Hi.
Further to my previous posts, I have now had the fan replaced on my 2011 2.2CDI Viano and so it runs at about 95 degrees C on the motorway and around 85 round town.
Can anyone let me know please if this is considered a normal range with a 10 degrees C outside temperature.
Thanks

I would expect temps in town to be higher than on a motorway not the other way round.

Just checked my expansion tank and there is a small piece of raised plastic missing from the tanks moulding that acts as the locking point for the cap. (The missing plastic is surface only so no hole in tank)This now allows the cap to go past it its designed locking point by another half a turn and then it tightens rather thank locking.
Could this cause any issues in terms of high temp gauge or even over heating?
Thanks
