Going back to a comment made about my C240 having unnecessarily fat tyres on it, I saw one of them little c-class sport coupe things today (06 plate) with 245/40's on the back. It was only a c220 diesel ! Seems extremely OTT to me. I wonder if MB are in some kind of pact with Continental to try and get people to spend as much on tyres are possible....

MB are only providing what people want,the current fashion is for large wheels and a really low profile tyre. The fact that it does nothing for the handling and makes replacement more expensive is immaterial. MB used to outside fashion and I wish they would return to that position.
Most BMs are now sold with very large rims which make the ride unbearable, however if you specify a new BM without the large wheels it can be very hard to sell.

Driving through Manchester a few days ago, my 'cool' 13 year old Daughter commented how she thought the wheels on another E class looked nicer than mine. Looked across and they were the standard 16'' aero ones! And here's me thinking my shiny wide 17'' wheels with low profile tyres were 'blinging'.
I don't get it....
