Just acquired a 98 SLK with 44k miles and FMSH. The paintwork looks beautiful on the car but inspecting it closely there is some overspray on the edge of the rubber window surround and in some of the panel gaps on the roof and rhs dooor trims. I rang the previous owner and he told me that the car had been totally repainted by a Mercedes Approved Body Shop in March this year at a cost of £2500 who I called and confirmed. Would I have to take it back to the Body Shop that did the work, which unfortunately is over 200 miles away, would my local Mercedes Dealer/Body Shop sort this out under the 3 year warranty I'm told the repaint work has or would I have to get this sorted myself? Thanks in advance.

As the bodyshop is 200 miles away it would probably cost more to take the car there and have the overspray removed.. and no guarantee that you are gonna be happy with the end result ..best bet is to find a good valet/detailing guy and have it done local.. Overspray is a major problem in bodyshops as more air is required to dry waterbased paints and longer drying times .. and in my own personal opinion masking tape aint as sticky as it used to be ...

I agree,,I think that this is because it could pull off new paint

masking tape now comes in different grades, but some of the regular white masking tape is not sticky at all, i had a few bad batched myself.

go to a halfrauds or similar and get a small 1 ltr tin of thinners, use a rag and gently take the over spray off with the thinners. be carefull near paintwork. just use the tip of you finger in a rag.
