Hi Miv,

I have the same problem with mine, so the bootlid falls on the back of my head sometimes when I'm loading or unloading. I recently put the car in to MBS in Southampton for other work (which they did really well) and only mentioned the boot-lid problem as I was leaving. I was given a quick description of the replacement process and it's obviously very simple. The labour charge would be very small, or you could do it yourself if you're inclined. Not sure about the cost of the part. Someone on this forum will know, I'm sure.

Sounds great. I'm a little bit jealous.

Hi Mivvie and welcome.
Lovely cars these. I picked mine up 18 months ago and it's basically in show condition, having won an event at Brooklands under previous ownership. I love it and it goes like a rocket. Looks the dog's danglies too.

Hi and welcome! I've had my SLK from new, and she's a year 2000 pre facelift model. Sadly she has been in storage since 2008. A couple of children will do that to you... These are still great cars. I'm hoping to recommission mine next year for my wife's 50th birthday.

A couple of boot support struts shouldn't set you back much money, and are a five minute fix. Just don't bang your head or trap your fingers while replacing them :)

Uncle Benz please post on here your recommissioning experience and details when you do it. That will make good reading I think.
No doubt you have good reasons for laying it up for so long, but these are great cars and I absolutely love them. I became hooked when my mate bought one about 4 years ago and I had the pleasure of driving it back from Wales to the Midlands. As I've said earlier, I bought mine 18 months ago and it's a facelift 230k Obsidian in show condition.

We’ve effectively had our since new 1998 one, which I found for my mum and inherited after she dies nearly 3 years ago now.

The boot strut lift thing is something I noticed the other day when getting it out the garage for the first time since the autumn.

Need to give ours another full service etc

I contacted SGS-they were very helpful, and I ordered the correct size-very easy to do following the instructions online-they were about £38 inc vat and £4 postage (under £50 spend) and arrived within 48 hours, and were fitted within 10 minutes of arrival! Good quality product! Simples!!
