Hi Guys,
I could use a bit of help here if you don't mind.

I have a C180 estate (w reg) which is Midnight Blue. I've just resprayed the bonnet (which I'd dented with a few fence posts from the room rack - ouch!) and it's looking lovely. I'd like to touch up a couple of scores on the bumpers as well but they are a lighter blue and look a bit metallic to me.

Can anyone tell me where to find the code for the bumper colour ?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Andy

Just add WDB in front and you have the 17 numbers

Andy. I’m interested in the answer to your question too because I can’t find a colour code for the bit you are referring to, that is the “belt” that goes round the bumper and across the doors.
That link will only give you the basic colour of the car and doesn’t give any code for the “belt” trims.

Malcolm is referring to the VIN number which is located at the bottom, outside of the windscreen at passenger side.

Paint

Thanks again Malcolm,

It did work, but only gave me the body colour. I've tried a few other sites thatuse the VIN, but got the same results. Nobody seems to know what colour the trim is painted.

Anybody got any other ideas ?

Rusty wheel arches

Hi Kwwong,

I'm not a professional body worker, but have done my fair share over the years.

I'd recomment something like Currust or rustkiller which are painted on to the area and allowed to dry. You can then sand them. They work (i believe) by converting the top surface of the rust to a form of resin that blocks the layers underneath access to oxygen. As rust is just a very slow form of combustion, that stops the process.

personally I start with 600 grit wet and dry paper and sand/fill/sand up to 1200 grit. Couple of coats of primer. Sand again with 1200 paper used wet and then top coat.

Couple of days later rub down with G3 cutting compound and polish.

Hope this helps.

Go to a small body shop where they have the colour cards or even the MB ones.. these colour combination's where always used together,, so you know the body colour,,then the body shop should be able to tell you the matching colour as there is only 1 for the trim bits

Right your bumper/ moulding paint colour I hope.. I take it your colour code is 904 midnight or dunkelblau ...175 is mattgrey met...309 rioblue met...167 fiefdubkelgrau met and 214 dunkelblau these were the bumper / moulding colours associated with midnight blue depending on the model 'classic'...etc

Hi,
you will need an angle grinder, use the side edge of the disk and brush it over the area dont go to hard or deep, gent sweeps will cut the rust back to clean metal. the rust has possibly come from the rear as a pin hole so get some good rust treatment and follow the instructions on that tin/bottle. then you need some body filler, quick sand stuff is best. you might also need a small tube of stopper (fine filler for scratches and da marks.)

production paper you need..
2 sheets of 40 or 80 grade course paper for the filler,
next sheets are wet or dry production paper. best used wet with a bar of soap.
2-3 sheets of 12 grade to smooth that
2-3 sheets of 180-240 grade for pre paint
600 grade to prep the area around for a key and to final smooth the worked area.
check for marks and apply the stopper in very fine skims, you are only filling scratches.
flat that till smooth. feel the area as you work the area repaired should not bulg or dip.
then when thats dry apply a coat of primer. then paint as required.
