Dear All,

I've read seveal threads on the forum where the subject of the paint warranty crops up. I've read differing things with regards to what's covered for how long.

I presume that any and everything connected with the bodywork/paint/rust is covered by the basic 3 year warranty (provided it's serviced by MB or an indie).

I also gather that if it's serviced by MB all the way through its life it has bodywork/paintwork/rust covered for up to 30 years. Part of MobiloLife.

Finally, I've also read threads that mention 8 years with regard to paintwork etc, but dont understand fully what this is.

What are other members experiences or knowledge on these matters (particularily the 8 year thing)?

Thanks

True, there is a lot of confusion.
Basically this stems from the 'corrosion years'. Rust erupted from under the paint and MB fixed it 'under warranty'. Around the same time they announced the 30yr anti perforation warranty and people assumed that this was to insure for the issues that were going on.
It wasn't.
There is the anti rust warranty which as you say is thoroughly under the 3yr warranty as you wuld expect from any manufacturer. There is an additional 5 year goodwill cover where if rust appears and is not a result of damage, that too will normally be fixed. Officially you require FMBSH for this but in reality they will normally do this irrespective. Beyond this, you are really into full 'goodwill' territory where you may get approval if you're a long standing customer but it does vary.

Now, the 30yr Mobilio warranty. This is a warranty that covers you for corrosion from the inside. e.g. doors rotting through from the inside etc, the type of thing Fords and Nissans did in the 80's where replacing a door skin was a normal thing. Not really a big risk given that mercs don't normally do this anyway. This does need a fmbsh..but post 04 cars can re-instate their cover with a single service whereas pre-04 cars need continuous history, probably something to do with the fact that post 04 cars are 100% galvanised so almost certainly won't rot.

Thanks Jberks.

Me continually complaining at my local dealer has probably knackered the additional 5 years beyond the first 3.
