My 2007 A150 Classic SE is terrific - apart from its susceptibility to chips and scratches (colour metallic black), The finish seems incredibly soft. As you would expect, the bonnet is chief recipient of damage. Is this problem a characertistic of the model, MBs generally, or is there a particular issue with my car?

My late 2004 C Class (with nano paint) is just the same. I wondered if it's too hard, rather than too soft, as bits seem to chip of it very easily, but without the crazing you get from a big stone chip.
It's very noticeably on my car as it's metallic dark red, but with white primer.

All you can say abut the white primer is that it makes it easier to see where the next chip has occurred.

S class
You are so lucky that the chipping only affects the paint layer and that the white primer is still on the metalwork,,earlier cars didnt have the white primer.stone chip=bare metal and rust..
