Hi fellow Mercedes owners a newbie here with a couple of question.

I have recently bought a lovely 2000 230SLK in bright racing red. I am not sure but I have an idea the car might have been resprayed. i have noticed in a couple of places that the paint work lacquer seems to be lifting .. i've had chips away look at it and make good where nessasary ...but no sooner than one spot is made good another one appears  has any one got any ideas as to what might be causing this and how can i stop it keep happening

No, no rust issues Chips away gentleman said it seemed to be a laquer problem, is this a common fault on SLK's? Now would I be able to get something done under warranty? After all the car is only 8 years old. I am really worried about this :(

Its possible that the car has had a respray and the original paint not cleaned down correctly.

All you can do is to go to an MB dealer and ask them to check on the paint and the thickness.

And there were a few good quality/good named brand lacquers that were prone to flaking..
