The rear fixed panel of my panoramic roof shattered on Monday after a glancing blow from a stone flicked up by a passing truck. It's still in place and taped up externally so it won't fall out and I can drive the car. I called Admiral insurers and they said it was covered and transferred me directly to Autoglass who took details and said they would be in touch. No contact for a couple of days so called again and they had no record so gave details again and they emailed to say they had booked repair of my windscreen and said they would forward a link for me to upload photos of the 'chip'. No link sent and called them again but they seem hopeless so not confident they'll do a reasonable job (last windscreen replacement by them leaked) Called MB dealer who said they could do it, glass panel £800 and fitting £500 so a sizeable bill. Called insurer again and waiting for a call back from their in-house team and hope they will authorise MB to do the work as this is a manufacturers panel and not readily available to Autoglass. Does anyone have experience of getting insurer to authorise MB to carry out repair? Am I entitled to ask them to pay MB for the repair? There's a modest excess on the policy much like most policies so happy with that but £1300 is a big bill.
