Delighted with your succesful outcome. However, that should never have been in doubt from the outset! Your dealer and the person in MB who initially rejected your complaint should hang their heads in shame.

There may be a legal beagle on here who can confirm this but I was told the other day that under some new EU law, car dealers have to warrant their cars (products) for a year just like any other product you buy. The fact that it is second hand is irrelevant as long as they sold it as part of their 'business'.

The car came from a MB dealer who claim there was no damage when sold.
I have written to MB, they called back and say thay will not replace it under warranty, claiming the "outside influences".
In my letter I did state that if I had realised it would not be covered by warranty I would have returned to car using the 30 day used car guarantee. I suppose the dealer would have rejected that as well due to "outside influences".
I asked that in their letter of reply they include the name and address of the top customer service person in MB.
Attached (hopefully!) is a picture.

Hi Terry

Just searched the forum and found your 2011 post and photo about the rotting seals on your car’s panoramic roof. I hope it was resolved to your satisfaction and you got your replacement.
I have had a 12 plate C220 CDi from new and just noticed when cleaning the car that I have the same problem with one of the seals rotting on my car’s panoramic roof. I’ve booked it in to my local MB dealer to check it out at the end of the week and post a warranty claim on my behalf. No doubt they will come back with all kinds of excuses and possibly suggest they’ve never had this problem before etc etc. Hopefully your unfortunate experience will support and reinforce my claim and any additional information you can forward that you feel might be helpful would be greatly appreciated.

Just had news of a good result as MB has agreed to replace the roof. I notice that the latest C Class has a different seal design and material, so perhaps they are aware of the problem.

C220 Sunroof rubber seal perished with holes

Hi All,

I have just joined this group as I am experiencing the same issue with Mercedes as a few of you. I have a 22month old C220 ( 10k miles) with a panoramic sun roof. Just notivced the rubber around the sunroof has a few holes and naturally thought it would be covered under warranty.

I was horrified when the Dealer said he thought it was caused by BIRDS eating the rubber and would not cover under warranty. They want to charge me £900 to repair.

I have seen on this group a A200 and C220 that both had the same problem and managed to get mercedes to honour their warranty. I would really apprecaite any help on how you worded your complaint. I have been to the main department in the Neatherlands and they are refusing to cover under warranty - absolute disgrace.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found damage on my 2018 GLA which I have had from new. I was told that it is rodent damage. I have had it examined independently and was told that it is not rodent damage as a rodent could not have got into it. I have also had the garage checked by pest control and there is no sign of any rodents in my garage. I am waiting for the garage to reopen after the corona crisis so that I can see somebody about it. Any tips for a lady owner?

This is exactly the damage which I have found on my 2018 GLA 220 which I have had from new. I have been in touch with Honest John in the Saturday edition of the Daily Telegraph who has advised me to write to the dealership principal and state that I want it repairing under warranty and if it is not done, I get it done by a specialist and sue the dealership for the cost. My letter will be in the post tomorrow.

Well done!
I can only say that I was determined and I would have gone through the small claims court. I’m sure that anyone would have known if there were rodents on their property. I feel as if I scored a great victory over the big boys!
