I spotted this recently in a newspaper in Toronto. 33 Diesel E Class' are driving from Paris to Beijing in October. You could have applied to Mercedes to drive in one of the stages, I missed out 
as too late to apply.
Here are a couple of links, 2nd one is interesting (to me) as the 'Bluetec' diesels are taking part. These engines are to be launched in the US in 2006 and other markets in 2008.
